Nature & Human Nature:

Nature & Imagination:
Finding the Spirit of the Depths within the Spirit of the Times

Jeffrey T. Kiehl, PhD

Friday Lecture:   March 5, 2021
7 - 9 p.m.     $15     2 CEUs
 (Registration is below.)

We find ourselves living in unprecedented times in terms of global environmental and social disruption. Our separation from the natural world has led to catastrophic changes in Earth’s climate system, accompanied by human colonization of the non-human world. To address the symptoms of the spirit of the times requires us to plumb the depths of psyche. Jung’s Red Book portrays his experiences with these depths, which contain vivid images of the natural world. Thus, Jung’s exploration of the inner world enriched his connections to the outer world. By reconnecting to the spirit of the depths, we ensoul our presence in the world, thus healing our split with the natural world. In this presentation, we explore images of nature in the Red Book and how these images open us to the soul of our lived world. By imagining the enfolded Anima Mundi, the world soul, we unfold it in the spirit of the times.

Nature & Imagination: Alchemical Ecopsychology

Saturday Workshop: March 6, 2021
10 a.m. - 3 p.m.    $70 General; $50 Student   4 CEUs
(Registration is below.)

Alchemical Ecopsychology recognizes the deep, subtle interconnectedness of psyche and matter though combining the sacred, psychological practices of alchemy with the discipline of ecopsychology. Through the union of these two subjects, one ancient the other relatively new, we discover a path to not only understanding how life interacts with the environment, but how life and environment are inherently sacred. Of equal importance is transforming this understanding into embodied experience. A core concept within Alchemical Ecopsychology is that of cycles, in which processes both material and psychological manifest in the form of dynamic patterns. By working imaginatively with these patterns, we deepen our relationship with our surrounding environment and rediscover the sacred dimensions in nature.

Listening to Nature’s Requiem

Friday Lecture: April 23, 2021
7 p.m. - 9 p.m.     $15     2 CEUs
(Registration is below.)

Nancy’s talk will explore this challenging time we are living through and how our collective psyche is responding to it as seen through dreams and visions. She will contrast this experience with what Jung faced before WWI when he was drawn down into his inner journey to reconnect with his feminine soul. To understand this process, Nancy will offer an example of working with a significant dream through active imagination. She will also link her discussion to Maya cosmology, their four worlds and the eventual collapse of their natural environment which parallels what we have created in our world. The is a time when soul calls us back to ourselves to recalibrate our lives and the world— our connection to nature. It is vital that we heed this call.
